Detroit soul and funk guitarist Nadir Omowale is prepared for another cutting-edge live show with his band, and the cameras will be rolling to capture all of it. The show is sponsored by both Antelope Audio and GoPro, who have teamed up with Omowale to provide audio and camera equipment to enhance the evening. Omowale says the atmosphere will be part science fiction, part Blaxploitation.
“The whole idea of this is to do way more than just a concert, it’s an entire experience,” he said. “We’re taking over the entire space. The audience will be sitting in theater seats, but they’ll be a part of the experience because of everything going on around them.”
The cameras will be rolling as Omowale and his eight-piece band play a full set, and guests Steffanie Christi’an and Michael Turner will join Omowale for their own original songs. The evening will be hosted by rock emcee Volcano, with sounds by DJ Ray 7 of Underground Resistance. The show is for ages 21 and over.
“Everybody talks about all the other reasons why people aren’t going to live shows so much,” said Omowale. “I think … as artists, if we want people to come to our shows, (we) can come up with different ways (to) keep people entertained and keep them engaged. This gives us an opportunity to do something that’s really cool and different.
“It won’t be your everyday, ordinary show.”
